The magnificent Thor's Hammer belt is designed after the Viking Age find of an original Thor's Hammer from the village of Kabbarp in southern Sweden. The buckle is the truly artistic interpretation of the original historical Thor's Hammer. The Old Norse name for the Thor's hammer is Mjölnir, meaning crusher or lightning.
The Thor's hammer was the magical war hammer of the Viking god Thor, who used it to fight the enemies of the gods, especially the hostile giants and the Midgard Serpent. After each throw, the Thor's hammer always returned to Thor's hand of its own accord. The Thor's hammer was very popular among the Vikings in the 9th and 10th centuries as a piece of jewellery, as it allowed them as pagans to distance themselves clearly from the emerging Christianity.
