In the period from about 700 to 1000 AD, brooches with chain distributor plates worn in pairs were an important part of Viking women's costume. In north-eastern Europe, such bead distributors are therefore often found in women's graves of the Viking Age.
Here, several chains were often worn between the paired brooches worn on the chest, which were either attached to wide distributing plates or to thin bar chain distributors. Especially in Finland and the Baltic States, but also on Gotland, such chain distributors were quite common.
