Thor's Hammer key ring holder.

This striking key ring holder in the shape of a Thor's hammer from Iceland unites both pagan and Christian symbolism into a harmonious whole.

The original wolf cross Mjölnir belongs to the find from Fossi in Iceland and dates to the Viking period of the 10th century.

Perhaps the wearer of this Thor's hammer once wanted to assure himself of both heavenly powers, or he carried the Wolf's Cross hammer in order to be able to trade with both pagan and Christian customers.

In any case, this Thor's hammer, which the Vikings also called Mjölnir, is an impressive contemporary testimony to the enormous mental upheavals that shaped the Vikings in the north during the 10th century.

The expressive key ring holder, is available in brass or silver colour. Zamak casting.

The Thor's Hammer key ring holder measures 7.5 x 3 cm (with ring) and has a key ring 2.5 cm in diameter.

In Old Norse, the Thor's hammer is also called Mjölnir, which means crusher or lightning. The Thor's hammer was the magical war hammer of the Norse god Thor, with which he fought his enemies and especially the giants and the Midgard Serpent, his hammer returning to Thor's hand all by itself after each throw.
In the 9th and 10th centuries, the Thor's hammer was very popular with many Vikings as a counterpart to the Christian cross, who as pagans wanted to visibly distance themselves from the emerging Christianity.
