Viking oval brooch in Oseberg style.

This true-to-detail replica of an oval brooch with beautifully motifs in the so-called Oseberg style is faithfully crafted according to a find from Gjerstad / Norway and dates to the first half of the 9th century.

This particular Viking jewellery, also known as bowl brooch or tortoise brooch, is made of high-quality bronze and is also available in genuine silver-plated version.

The measure of the oval brooch is 9 x 5.5 cm.

This type of bowl brooch in the so-called Oseberg style dates from the early 9th century and is especially known from the famous Viking ship burial of Oseberg, where a large number of artifacts in this style of art were found.

With such an oval fibula in the Viking Age the dress of the woman was connected to the apron on her shoulders. Tortoise brooches were an essential part of the Viking Age women's costume and were always worn in pairs, so it was advisable to order two brooches. The price is for one oval fibula each.

The Oseberg style is also called the 1st gripping beast style and developed from the 8th to the 9th century in Norway. It's considered to be the first, independent art style of the Viking Age and was used for objects made of wood and metal as well as for jewellery. The Viking ship burial of Oseberg in Vestfold, Norway, is famous for its Viking Age art style.

The Oseberg style consists mainly of stylized animal depictions, as already known from the previous Animal Style III, but supplemented by the motif of the so-called gripping beast. The animal figures are usually stretched out to form long, ribbon-shaped and intertwined figures, whereby small animals are often combined to form comprehensive patterns.
