Medieval pilgrim's bag made of fabric.
Instead of belt pouches, people of the Middle Ages often carried shoulder bags made of fabric in which they could stow away pretty much everything they needed on the road.
Such shoulder bags made of cloth are often shown in contemporary illustrations of the late Middle Ages.
However, haversacks and shoulder bags made of fabric are already known from the early Middle Ages and the Viking Age.
Typical of these medieval shoulder bags was often two bars made of wood, horn or bone attached inside or outside the bag, which stiffened the bag and made it easier to access.
Inside the medieval pilgrim's bag, two stirrups made of pine wood are sewn in for stiffening, through which the cord is passed that serves as a carrying strap.
The material used for the shoulder bag is a felt mix of 50:50 virgin wool and viscose, the carrying strap is made of 5 mm hemp rope. The colour may vary slightly from the pictures shown.
Dimensions: The medieval pilgrim bag measures 35 x 23 cm and has an open opening of approx. 10 cm.
The shoulder strap is made of 5 mm hemp rope in 160 cm length.
