These leather scales in the shape of a shield are made of a firm yet supple nubuck leather.The nubuck leather scales are 1.5 - 2 mm thick and excellent for making your own light and mobile scale armour.
All scales are provided with two holes. This allows the scales to be sewn or riveted onto any backing material, such as fabric or leather, with the individual scales overlapping.
The dimensions of the leather scales made of nubuck leather are 7 x 4 cm, with a hole size of 3 mm.
The leather colours black, brown and dark red are available. The individual leather scales vary in colour. This gives the finished scale its unmistakable, individual appearance.
The package contains 50 leather scales of one colour each.
Leather scales have been used since ancient times by the Persians, Greeks and Romans to make scale armour and were still in use by the Byzantines and Vikings until the late Middle Ages. In addition to armour scales made of leather, those made of bronze, iron and even bone or horn were also used.
