Leather scales made of strong core leather - 50 pieces.
These solid leather scales in shield shape are made of a thick grain leather from vegetable tanning, which offers excellent protection. The leather scales made of vegetable tanned grain leather are 3 - 3.5 mm thick and are simply perfect for making an extremely solid scale armour with optimum protection.
The scales have two holes on the beautifully curved upper edge. This makes it easy to sew or rivet them onto the desired backing material, e.g. leather or fabric, whereby the individual scales should overlap each other in order to achieve an optimal protective effect.
The dimensions are 7 x 4 cm, the hole size is 3 mm.
The leather scales are available in the colours black and brown. The colouring of the scales varies; this creates a scale armour with a delightfully iridescent colour effect - each one is absolutely unique!
The pack contains 50 scales of core leather of one colour each.
Leather scales have been used to make scale armour since ancient times by the Persians, Greeks and Romans and were still in use by the Byzantines and Vikings until the late Middle Ages. In addition to armour scales made of leather, those made of bronze, iron and even bone or horn were also used.
