Vendel period belt fitting in the shape of a raven.

This belt fitting in the shape of a raven from the Vendel period probably represents Hugin or Munin, one of the two ravens that accompanied the Germanic god Odin on his ways.

The model for this magnificent raven fitting was found on the Swedish island of Gotland and dates to around 600 AD.
This period is called the Vendel Age and immediately preceded the Viking Age.

Depictions of birds were widespread in the Germanic region during the Vendel period. The historical original of the raven fitting is now in the Statens Historiska Museum in Stockholm.

The belt fitting is made of high-quality bronze and is also available real in silver-plated.
In addition to this raven fitting we also offer a mirror-inverted version.

Vendel raven fitting dimensions: 3.5 x 2 cm.

Fastening: There are four pins on the back of the raven fitting. To attach the decorative rivets, simply pass them through corresponding holes in the leather. It is best to use pliers to bend the tip of the pin inwards a little. If you then tap the pins flat with a hammer, the tip will sink into the leather and the decorative rivet will be fixed stably and flat on the belt.
