Productdetails...

Mano Fico amulet from the Roman Empire.

Here you can buy a so-called Mano Fico amulet, made according to an ancient Roman model from the Roman imperial period.

The small Roman pendant is designed in the shape of a hand with the thumb between the index and middle fingers, which is known as the fig or mano fico gesture. In ancient Rome, the fig hand was a common symbol of fertility and good luck and served as an amulet to ward off the evil eye.

The original Mano Fico amulet was made of red coral and is now in the possession of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, Hungary.

In ancient times, the fig (Latin: ficus) was considered an attribute of the fertility god Dionysus / Bacchus alongside the grape, and the word "fica" not only refers to the fig as a fruit, but also to its visually resembling vulva. For the ancient Romans, the fig was therefore associated with fertility, luck and abundance.

The fig hand was also known as a symbol among the Germanic tribes and is still widely used as a talisman for good luck in Italy, Portugal and Brazil. Small Mano Fico amulets have been given to newborns in these regions for centuries as an amulet to keep evil away from babies.

The replica has the same dimensions as the original: xxx cm

You can buy this amulet in bronze or in real silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (Please note the delivery time).
