The model after which this Viking iron key was made belongs to a Viking Age find from the Swedish island of Gotland from the village of Rone.During the time of the Vikings, a key was an indispensable part of a woman's costume and a status symbol, as the married woman held the power of the key and the visibly worn key was considered a sign of her status.
