Viking pendant in the shape of a troll cross.
This small pendant was inspired by Scandinavian troll crosses in the style of the Viking Age and the Middle Ages.Due to its shape, the troll cross is also associated with the Odal rune or Othala of the older runic alphabet. According to runic magic, the rune Othala symbolises possession and inheritance. Perhaps this is why such a troll cross is still sometimes hung or painted over stable doors in Iceland and Norway.
It is also said that the ancient Vikings often wore a troll cross on a leather band around their necks to protect themselves against illness and curses, but especially to arm themselves against troublesome trolls, as troll crosses were supposed to help scare away trolls.
Unfortunately, there are no reliable archaeological sources for the use of troll crosses by the Vikings or in the Middle Ages. Nevertheless, this beautiful troll cross pendant is of course ideal as neck jewellery for modern part-time Vikings, reenactors and neo-pagans alike.
Because even if this troll cross is not made of iron and the old legends are perhaps not so far off, this pendant is nevertheless an elegant piece of jewellery and pretty accessory that conveys a mental or emotional connection to Scandinavian culture and the old beliefs.
Troll cross dimensions: 3 x 2 cm.
