Productdetails...

Axe pendant in the shape of a Viking broad axe.

This broad axe amulet was modelled on a so-called Dane axe, the powerful war axe of the Vikings, which can be found in considerable numbers in the historical finds of the Viking Age.

The so-called broad axe or Dane's axe was used as a war axe during the time of the Vikings, especially in the front lines of battle. Equipped with a man-high handle, the broad axe could be used to strike over the enemy's shield wall into the enemy ranks or to keep any enemy at bay by reaching far out.

Among the Anglo-Saxons, the broadaxe was a special status symbol of the so-called huscarls, the English king's bodyguard, as is well documented in the famous Bayeux Tapestry.

Axe amulets were not uncommon during the Viking Age and enjoyed some popularity, especially among the Eastern Vikings.

The Viking broad axe pendant measures 4.8 x 3.6 cm.

You can buy this Viking pendant in high-quality bronze or real silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (Please note the delivery time).

A black leather cord in 1 m length for the miniature axe is included.

The axe was widespread and immensely popular among the Vikings, as it was a weapon that was quite easy to make, required little forging skills and was also useful as a tool. In the Viking Age, the axe was considered the most important weapon of the common man, next to the spear, as only a few could afford a sword at that time.
