Short description
Replica of an original Germanic Berlock pendant from Sweden of Roman Empire period. Bronze, silver-plated or 925 silver. 4 x 2 cm.
Productdetails...

Berlock pendant after a find from the Iron Age.

This beautiful berlock pendant is made after a historical model from the Roman Imperial period and is based on a find from Varnhem in Västergötland / Sweden from 100 - 200 AD.

The berlock is a typical piece of Germanic jewellery and was worn around the neck by Germanic women of higher rank during the Roman imperial period. Link to the original Berlock...

The berlock pendant was probably a status symbol of the married woman or mother, as berlocks are almost exclusively found in women's burials.

The berlock was usually made of gold, more rarely of silver, and is therefore often referred to as a gold berlock. The original berlock pendants were originally hollow and covered with filigree granulation decoration and gold threads.
Our replica, on the other hand, is solidly cast.

You can buy this berlock pendant in bronze or in real silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (Please note the delivery time).
Alloy...

Dimensions of the berlocke: 4 x 2 cm.

A black leather strap of 1 m length for the berlock pendant is included.

Gold berlocks were typical as jewellery for Germanic women's costumes in the Roman imperial period from the 1st to 2nd century AD and were decorated with filigree granulation decoration made of individual wires and beads using the granulation technique - berlocks are among the most outstanding pieces of Germanic jewellery from the early Roman imperial period.

The production of bells required great technical sophistication, but this was apparently mastered by a large number of smaller workshops in the Germanic region. Gold bells can be found in Saxony, Bohemia, Poland and southern Scandinavia, where they were found in abundance.
