Finger ring of the princess Æthelswith of Wessex.

This detailed replica of a medieval finger ring is made after a historical model that once belonged to the daughter of the Anglo-Saxon king Æthelwulf of Wessex, and which dates back to the Viking Age of 853 - 874 AD

The finger ring of the Æthelswith is designed in the so-called trewhiddle style, which is typical for the Anglo-Saxon art in the 9th century.
Link to the original finger ring...

The original finger ring was originally made of gold with niello inlays and is today in the possession of the British Museum in London.

The Anglo-Saxon ring Æthelswith measures 18 mm at its widest point and is available in 3 sizes. The finger ring is not closed at the bottom, but has parallel ends that overlap each other by about 12 mm.

This means that the diameter of the ring can easily be reduced or increased by a few ring sizes - making this beautiful ring suitable for almost any finger with only three different sizes.

Ring sizes:
S = 17,3 mm - EU 53 - 56 / US 6.5 - 8
M = 19,3 mm - EU 58 - 63 / US 8.5 - 10
L = 21,3 mm - EU 64 - 69 / US 11 - 12.5

The ring of princess Æthelswith is made from quality bronze and also available in real silver-plated.

Æthelswith lived between 838 and 888 A.D. and was the only known daughter of King Æthelwulf of Wessex and thus the sister of the English King Alfred the Great. Æthelswith became queen when she married King Burgred of Mercia in 853, at a time when both Wessex and Mercia were ravaged by Viking raids.

Repeated Danish incursions weakened Mercia over the years, and so the royal couple were driven out by the Vikings in 874. They fled from England to Rome where Burgred died shortly after. Æthelswith lived in Pavia until 888.
