The spiral is by far one of the oldest patterns in human history. Even to the early Celts of the Bronze Age, the spiral was regarded as a sign of the sun and was therefore a symbol of growth and prosperity because the sun determined the lives of the people of that time.
A right-handed spiral here represented the waning winter sun, while the left-handed spiral represented the sun of the summer half-year. The double spiral, however, symbolized the equinox, the beginning of spring and autumn.
