Short description
Two-coloured and divisible Viking amulet with kissing lovers couple after a Guldgubbe from Bornholm. Bronze or real silver plated. 3 x 1.8 cm.
Productdetails...

Two-coloured Viking amulet with lovers.

This divisible amulet with a Viking love couple consists of two different coloured pendants in one amulet.

The Viking lovers' amulet was made after the so-called Guldgubbe, which was found on the Danish island of Bornholm and shows a kissing couple.

This amulet with Viking lovers couple is very nice as a small love gift for lovers because it can be split in the middle and so both lovers can wear one half of the pendant on a ribbon around their neck.

The Viking couple amulet measures 3 x 1.8 cm and is made of high-quality bronze.
A genuine silver-plated version is also available.

Two black leather cords in 1 m length are included with the divisible Viking lovers couple amulet.

Guldgubbers are one to two centimetre large gold plates from the Iron Age, which are found exclusively in Scandinavia. The majority of gGuldgubber come from the Danish island of Bornholm, where only at the site "Sorte Muld" near Svaneke about 2,500 such gold plates have been found.

The earliest guldgubbers were made in the Germanic Iron Age from about 375 onwards, but were used into the Viking Age, with the heyday of guldgubbers being in the Vendel period between 550 and 800 AD.

The three main motifs on guldgubbers are man, woman and a kissing couple, but also representations of animals. What function these gold plates had is not really known, but they were probably votive offerings or means of payment in a ritual context.

Very often, couples embracing or kissing each other can be seen on guldgubbers, which is seen as a marriage or fertility motif or as an image of a pair of gods.
