Viking amulet after the discovery of Vårby.
This expressive Viking amulet was made after the discovery of the brooch from Vårby in Sweden, which dates back to the 9th century.The centre of the Viking amulet is dominated by a cross. However, as most Swedes at the time still believed in pagan rites, it is more likely that the four heads at the ends of the cross symbolise the four wind directions.
Among the Germanic peoples, the wind directions were known as Nordri, Sudri, Austri and Westri and were regarded as separate entities.

In contrast to the historical original, which was very large, massive and sculptured, we have made our amulet much smaller, to be suited to wear around the neck.

The Viking treasure of Vårby was found in 1871 in Huddinge in the Swedish province of Södermannland under a stone in the forest. In addition to a large, plastically carved disc brooch, two ring pins with spherical ends in English style and nine pendants with animal ornaments in Borres and Eastern style were found, as well as numerous belt fittings of Oriental origin.
The treasure was probably buried during the 9th century and weighed a total of 1.4 kg, with the objects mostly made of gilded silver. The site is located near the former waterway where merchant ships sailed from Stockholm to Helgö and Birka during the Viking Age.
