The Gatebo cross depicting Jesus probably dates to the late 11th or early 12th century and was found as a reliquary in the village of Gåtebo on the Swedish island of Öland.The Gåtebo crucifix is an impressive example of post-Viking Christian art. It shows the representation of Jesus in a very late form of the so-called Urnes style, the final phase of Viking art forms.

As on other crosses of the time, the Gåtebo cross depicts Jesus as he was tied to the cross before the crucifixion.
Such depictions of Jesus on the cross were widespread in the late Viking Age and were found especially among the eastern Vikings in Sweden and Russia.
