The Odin pendant from Lejre as a detailed replica.

This Viking pendant was made exactly after the so-called Odin from Lejre and shows a seated figure on a high seat.

The small statuette is considered to be a representation of Odin, the father of the gods. It was found in 2009 during excavations in Lejre on the Danish island of Zealand and is made of gilded silver.

The original Odin pendant is now in the Roskilde Museum in Denmark.

Dimensions of the Odin from Lejre: 1.8 x 1.8 x 1.2 cm.

A 2 mm thick, black leather strap in 1 m length is included.

The so-called Odin of Lejre shows many clues that point as attributes to the Nordic father of the gods Odin: Thus, one eye seems to be shaped differently (Odin had once lost one of his eyes). Two birds sit on the armrests of the high seat (Odin was accompanied by the ravens Hugin and Munin). And the two ornaments of the backrest represent animal heads that can be interpreted as wolf heads (the wolves Geri and Freki were Odin's companions).

For the sake of completeness, however, it must be added that there are also interpretations that do not see the Odin of Lejre as the father of the gods, but assign Freya, Frigg or even Thor in women's clothing, which is derived from the Norse saga literature of the Edda or the rather feminine-looking garment and the stylised chain jewellery.

Interestingly, during excavations in Haithabu, a pendant in the form of a high seat was also found in a woman's grave, on the backs of which were two sitting birds, but without the figure resting on the throne. The find shows, however, that such amulets as that of Odin of Lejre were apparently also known in other areas during the Viking Age.
