Short description
Jörmungandr pendant - Striking serpent amulet based on a historical model of the Viking Age. Bronze, silver-plated or 925 silver. 3.8 cm.
Productdetails...

Jörmungandr pendant in Viking era style.

Here you can buy a Jörmungandr pendant, representing the Midgard serpent from Norse Viking mythology.

The model for the design of this Jörmungandr pendant was a bracelet found in the Swedish treasure trove of Undrom, near Boteå in Ångermanland, which now belongs to the Historical Museum in Stockholm.

The expressive representation of the Jörmungandr pendant follows the plastic design of the Midgard serpent on the bracelet and, like it, is three-dimensional.

As a world serpent, the Midgard serpent Jörmungandr represents the eternal cycle of the world, infinity and the workings of fate. At the same time, it symbolises the balance between order and chaos. In Ragnarök, the end of the world of the gods, it will break free from its ring and perish in battle with Thor.

Jörmungandr pendant dimensions: 3.8 cm diameter.

You can buy this Viking pendant in high-quality bronze or real silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (Please note the delivery time).

A 1 m long black leather cord is included with the Jörmungandr pendant.

Jörmungandr, also known as the Midgard Serpent, is a central figure in the ancient Norse tradition in the ideological world of the Vikings. The name comes from Old Norse and refers to a gigantic mythical creature. According to the Edda, Jörmungandr was thrown into the ocean by Odin, where it grew so large that it completely encircled the world of Midgard and bit its own tail.

The Midgard Serpent played an important role in Viking mythology as a cosmic boundary figure. It is considered the Norse counterpart to the Ouroboros of Antiquity, as it also forms a closed circle that bites its own tail. While the ancient Ouroboros mainly symbolises eternal change, Jörmungandr represents for the Vikings the inevitable fate and end of this cycle.
