Replica of the cross pendant from Hiddensee.

This faithfully crafted replica of a Viking cross was made true to detail according to the famous gold treasure of Hiddensee which was probably crafted by goldsmiths from Danish Jutland during the 10th century.

The Hiddensee Cross is a unique testimony to Viking jewellery craftsmanship and combines pagan symbolism with Christian influences in an inimitable way.

The Hiddensee treasure is now in the possession of the Stralsund Museum of Cultural History.

The gold treasure from Hiddensee is a 16-piece find from the Viking Age, which was recovered as flotsam and jetsam on the Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee between 1872 and 1874 and is considered an outstanding example of Viking goldsmith's art.

The Hiddensee treasure weighs a total of almost 600 grams and consists of a 44-centimetre-long neck ring, a disc brooch, four smaller and six larger cross pendants as well as four intermediate links made of pure gold. The Hiddensee crosses bear a bird's head and are decorated with filigree granulations.

The treasure was made around 970/980 AD and because of its uniqueness and preciousness, is also associated with the Danish King Harald Bluetooth who lived at the same time, although there is no definite proof of this as yet.
