Guldgubbers are one to two centimetre tall figures made of sheet gold. They appear exclusively in Scandinavia and were very common in the Germanic Iron Age with 3000 finds in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Most of the Guldgubbers were recovered on the Danish island of Bornholm.

Three main motifs can be distinguished: Man, woman, kissing couples and animals. It is not clear what function the gold men had. They could have been votive offerings or means of payment in a ritual context. In rare cases, the gold plates are pierced for sewing on and some Guldgubbers even have eyelets.

The guldubbers were made of small, often extremely thin pieces of gold sheet and often show a pair of lovers embracing, which is interpreted as a fertility motif or as a depiction of a pair of gods.

The first gold plate figurines were created in the Germanic Iron Age from around 375 and continued to be used until the Viking Age, with the heyday of the Guldgubbers reaching its peak in the Vendel period between 550 and 800 AD.
