Replica of a Thor's hammer with eagle's head.
Detailed replica of a unique Thor's hammer after a find from the Viking Age of the 10th century with eagle's head and depiction of the infinitely intertwined knot motif. There are very few finds of original Thor's hammers that can boast such a sculptural design as this Mjölnir with eagle's head. This is indeed a remarkable unique piece.
The elaborately intertwined knot in the middle of the Mjölnir is also unique for a Thor hammer of the Viking Age.
It could possibly refer to the personifications of the four cardinal points Norðri, Suðri, Austri and Vestri, as Thor was also seen as the protector of travellers and journeymen.
The original Thor's hammer was made of silver and came from a private collection. The place of discovery is unknown.

The Thor's hammer was also called Mjölnir and was the hammer of the Norse god Thor with which he fought his enemies. Mjölnir means crusher or lightning. In the 9th and 10th centuries, the Thor's hammer was very popular among the Vikings as an ornament, as it allowed them to distinguish themselves as Old Believers from the growing Christianity. Interestingly, however, Thor's hammers were mainly found in women's graves.
