Short description
Lunula amulet of the Viking era. Detailed replica of a Slavic crescent pendant from Great Moravia. Zamak in brass or silver color. 3 x 4 cm
Productdetails...

Lunula amulet - Slavic moon pendant.

This delicate lunula or lunitsa amulet is an enlarged replica of a so-called moon pendant based on an original find from Great Moravia and dates back to the 11th century.

The historical model for this lunula amulet comes from Mikulcice in today's Czech Republic and was found in the main castle of Morava in grave 550.

The original lunula pendant measured 26 x 20 mm and was originally made of gold and decorated with granulation.

The lunula amulet is of Slavic origin and spread throughout the Baltic region in the 10th century.
These moon pendants were particularly popular with the Rus and the Vikings and were mainly used as protective amulets for girls and women.

Lunula amulet dimensions: 3 x 4 cm.

The lunula amulet is available in brass or silver colour. Zamak casting.

A 1 metre long black cotton cord for the lunula amulet is included.

The Lunula amulet in the shape of half the moon is a symbol of feminine powers and thus symbolises the power of the moon. Among other things, the lunula amulet was intended to protect the unborn child and protect the mother from harm.

The lunula amulet was already known to the Romans. Moon pendants symbolising the Roman moon goddess Luna can be found in many Roman settlements, military camps and burial sites from the 2nd century AD. Lunula amulets were also widespread among the Germanic tribes.
