Nail cleaners were an indispensable part of women's costumes in the Viking Age. Nail cleaners were therefore found in many different forms in Viking settlement areas.
Nail cleaners and ear spoons were often attached, together with tweezers and awls, to a long chain or leather strap on the shell fibulae of women's garments and hung down from there at belt level.
