Viking caftan clasp of Kievan Rus.

This replica of a magnificent Viking caftan clasp is based on a find from the Ukrainian city of Chernigov, where it was part of the rich burial place of a Rus warrior from the 10th century.

Such beautifully designed, diamond-shaped caftan clasps of the Viking Age are known from the Varangians of Kievan Rus, but also from the Magyar region. This region had a great influence on the garments of the eastern Vikings.

The Kievan Rus caftan clasp is ideal for fastening the caftan of the Viking garment, but can also be used just as well as a cloak clasp.

Using the four eyelets on the side, the two parts of the Viking caftan clasp are simply sewn onto the hem of the garment.

The original of this caftan clasp is now in the State Historical Museum in Moscow.

Dimensions of the Rus caftan clasp: 4.5 x 10.5 cm.
Made of cast Zamak in brass or silver colour.
