Medieval aglet with crowned head.

Replica of a medieval aglet with crowned head, made of sheet brass according to historical models from the late Middle Ages.

Link to an original medieval aglet with crowned head...

In the period from 1200 to 1600, i.e. from the end of the High Middle Ages through the Late Middle Ages to the beginning of the Renaissance, garments were often fastened by lacing them with aglets, which made threading through the numerous eyelets of the garment immensely easier.

The medieval aglet was frequently simply sewn to the ribbon or riveted on with a small piece of wire.

To close the garment, holes were simply pierced in the fabric and hemmed with a buttonhole stitch to prevent fraying or damage to the fabric, and the lace was then riveted through.

Dimensions: The crowned aglet is made of sheet brass in 3.8 cm length, diameter 4 mm.
