This handcrafted replica of an elegant Roman hairpin is based on an original historical find and made of real bone.Bone pins were already used as hairpins in Roman times and were used to tame the elaborate updos of Roman ladies.
For the Romans, carved bone hairpins were an inexpensive alternative to the expensive hairpins made of bronze and silver. And so such bone hairpins are also frequently found in the finds from Roman times.
The Roman bone hairpin measures about 16 cm and is conical in shape. The needle is about 0.8 cm thick at the top and about 0.3 cm thick at the bottom. The material is carefully smoothed so that nothing pulls!
