Viking sax blade of genuine damascus steel with 256 layers, based on historical models from Gotland and Birka.Blades made of damascus steel were already known to the Romans and Celts, but they were especially prized by the Teutons and Vikings. Damascus steel was used especially for sword and sax because such blades of damascus steel combine hardness with elasticity - they are therefore both sharp and unbreakable.

The "Gotland" sax blade is forged from two types of steel into one damask steel. The steel used is AISI 4340, a hard tempering steel with a low carbon content that contains nickel, chromium and molybdenum and has a high degree of toughness.
As well as 15N20, a nickel-containing steel with good properties, which produces good contrasts and beautiful, bright sections in Damascus steel. When both steels are forged alternately in layers, the distinctive damascus pattern is created, making each piece unmistakably unique.
The hardness of the Sax blade is 58 to 60 HCR Rockwell.
