Early medieval broad sax blade of damascus steel.

Broad sax blade of genuine damascus steel with 256 layers for an early medieval sax based on models from the 6th - 9th centuries.

This sax blade is made of fine damascus steel and is shaped like the historical sax blades of the early Middle Ages, which were widespread between the 6th and 9th centuries, especially among Franks and Vikings, but also among other Germanic peoples.

Besides the Vikings, the so-called skramasax was part of the personal equipment and an important part of the costume of the Germanic tribes of the Alemannic, Franks and Anglo-Saxons. Saxes in this form were still used in the Frankish Empire until the early Viking Age.

The sax not only served the Teutons as a "machete" for daily use, but it was also a handy weapon that was affordable for everyone and could also serve the warrior well in the shield wall.

The early medieval sax blade is forged has a hardness of 57 HCR Rockwell and was forged from steel grades 1095 and 15n20 with 256 layers.
