This beautiful replica of a chape for a Viking-era sword is made after a historical model from the Swedish village of Valleberga and dates to the end of the 10th century.That Viking sword chape shows a bird motif and, according to Paulsen's typology, is called the Valleberga type and was widespread throughout the Viking area.
Finds of this type of sword chape are known from Hafurbjarnarstodum / Iceland, Hareskovby / Denmark, Valleberga / Sweden, Trondhein / Norway and Gnezdovo / Ukraine and other Viking settlements.
