Strap fitting for the suspension of a sax scabbard.
This fitting is used to attach a Viking sax scabbard and is attached either directly to the belt or to a leather loop.Suspensions with a ring are known from several sites in the Viking Age, including Birka and Gotland. They were used on sax scabbards as a connection between the scabbard and the belt loop.
The scabbard suspension consists of a bronze rivet plate with a brass-plated iron ring and three hollow rivets for easy fastening.
The sax belt fitting, including the ring, measures 5 x 2.5 cm.
The rivet plate measures 3.5 x 2 cm. The D-ring measures 2.5 x 2 cm.
