This medieval sewing needle is handcrafted from brass and corresponds to historical models from the Middle Ages.Needles made of brass or bronze were already in use among the early Celts and were also widespread among Germanic tribes and Vikings up to the late Middle Ages. Unlike those made of bone, sewing needles made of brass were used in particular for sewing finer fabrics.
In the Middle Ages, a sewing needle made of brass was precious and was therefore carefully stored, e.g. in a practical needle box, where it was protected from loss.
The replica of this brass sewing needle measures approx. 6 x 0.2 cm.
The eye measures about 1 mm.
Over time, brass needles become increasingly smooth and glide better and better through fabric. However, they also become somewhat duller. You can easily sharpen the needles with some fine sandpaper. Wet sandpaper with a grit of 500 or 600 is best for this.
