Here you can buy a Viking fire steel that was made according to a find from Denmark, which is now in the National Museum in Copenhagen.The boat-shaped form of this fire steel is very characteristic of Viking fire steels. However, they were also used in this way by Germanic tribes, Slavs and even in the later Middle Ages.
The Viking fire steel is forged by hand from carbon iron. The fire steel is of very good quality and produces sparks particularly easily, which, in combination with the appropriate tinder material, make it easy to start a fire.

With dry tinder, flint and a little practice, sparks can be created by striking the fire steel evenly, which glow the dry tinder. By blowing evenly and carefully, the first delicate glow soon turns into a small flame that can light the fire.
Dried birch sponge fungus is particularly suitable as tinder for the Viking fire steel, which is also frayed a little, along with bulrush and fine birch paper. Flint, which can be found for example on the German Baltic coast, serves as a flint.
