Short description
Viking ring brooch after a historical model from Dalhem on the island of Gotland, Sweden. Bronze, silver-plated or 925 sterling silver. 4 x 3.5 cm.
Productdetails...

Replica of a Viking ring brooch from Gotland.

This authentic Viking ring brooch was made based on a historical model from Dalhem on the island of Gotland, Sweden.

The outside of the ring brooch was embossed with geometric decorations, stamped and engraved, while the faceted pin had a flat, almost triangular head.

Link to the historical ring brooch...

The original ring brooch dated from the 11th to 12th century AD and was cast in silver with polyhedral ends, as was typical for ring brooches from Gotland and the Baltic region during the Viking Age.

Due to its polygonal, cube-shaped ends, this type of Viking ring brooch is known as a polyhedral brooch or brooch with cuboctahedral ends.

The Viking ring brooch measures 4.5 x 2.4 cm, corresponding to the historical model.

You can buy his Viking brooch in high-quality bronze or in genuine silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (Please note the delivery time).

During the Viking Age, ring brooches were commonly used to fasten men's cloaks on the right shoulder. Smaller ring brooches were used by the Vikings to fasten the neckline of a shirt, caftan or wrap skirt.

The ring brooches with polyhedral ends are probably modelled on the weights of Viking-era carts, which were identically shaped. It is therefore assumed that this design originally expressed identification with the profession of merchant or member of a merchant guild.

In the Baltic Sea region, ring brooches with polyhedral ends were very common during the Viking Age and account for about 40% of all ring brooches discovered from the period between 800 and 1000 AD. It is likely that this type of brooch became a widely known and frequently used design over time and was no longer reserved for a closed group of merchants.
