Vendel Age / Viking Age bird brooch from Uppåkra.

This detailed replica of an Iron Age bird brooch is made after an archeological find from Uppåkra in southern Sweden.

The bird brooch probably represents a raven. This bird was often thematized in art and jewellery in the Iron Age and Viking Age as a companion of the god Odin. The brooch dates to the middle of the 7th or beginning of the 8th century.

Link to the historical model...

The bird brooch from Uppåkra is made of high-quality bronze and is also available in genuine silver-plated.

Dimensions of the bird brooch: 5.5 x 2 cm.

The Viking bird brooch was used at the neckline of the garment. It can also be used to close a light cloak.

The Viking jewellery has a sturdy needle on the back side.

Uppåkra, located near Lund in the Swedish province of Skåne, was already inhabited since the Stone Age and gradually developed into the largest Iron Age settlement in southern Sweden.

Uppåkra had its heyday from 400 to 1050 AD and yielded a number of spectacular finds, most of which date to the Germanic Iron Age and the Viking Age. Uppåkra seems to have been a political, economic and religious centre and was probably the royal seat of an early empire in Skåne.
