Productdetails...

Roman bird brooch - dove fibula replica.

Here you can buy a replica of a Roman bird brooch, which was made according to a dove fibula from the 2nd century AD.

The original bird brooch comes from the collection of a private art collector from London and was made of sheet silver, whereby the bird had wings and tail with punched decoration.

Link to the original bird brooch...

Like other Roman bird brooches, this dove fibula also has a small eyelet on the tail, which indicates that it was worn with two brooches connected by an intermediate chain.

Roman animal brooches in the shape of birds, horses or fish were used from the 1st to the 3rd century A.D. and probably had a symbolic meaning.

The bird brooch measures 4.2 x 1.8 x 1.6 cm and thus almost corresponds to the historical model.

You can buy this bird brooch in high-quality bronze or genuine silver-plated.
Alternatively, also available in 925 sterling silver (please note the delivery time).
Alloy...

There is a sturdy spiral pin construction on the back of the Roman dove fibula.

Over the centuries, various meanings have been attributed to the dove. In relation to the Flood, the dove with an olive branch symbolises hope and peace. In oriental mythology, it is the attribute of the fertility goddess Ishtar. The Greek Aphrodite and the Roman Venus were also often accompanied by a dove. And a pair of doves is also regarded as a symbol of love.

In later times, the dove also appeared in a Christian context. For example, a dove was present at the Annunciation of Mary and the baptism of Jesus and symbolises the presence of the Holy Spirit. The dove thus symbolises wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, as well as piety and the fear of God.
