Productdetails...

Hand-forged Roman iron brooch with serpentine ends.

Here you can buy a hand-forged Roman brooch made of iron, a so-called omega fibula with serpentine shaped ends.

Forged iron brooches have been in use since early antiquity and were used by Celts, Germanic tribes and Romans alike.

The so-called Roman omega fibula was distinguished by its characteristic shape and serpentine ends and was typical of the Roman period around the birth of Christ.

The needle of the omega fibula is simply inserted (for right-handed people) on the right shoulder through the fabric of the cloak and then locked with the round part so that the brooch cannot come loose.

The needle has a length of 8 cm and is elegantly curved. It fits snugly to the body and grips the garment without sticking out.

The forged Roman brooch has a size of 7 x 8 cm and a beautiful matt black surface that gives it a rustic look.

The Roman omega fibula was originally of Spanish origin and spread through Ibero-Gallic auxiliary troops of the Romans via Gaul to the Rhine, where it became widespread around the birth of Christ, especially in the military sector.

Omega brooches often had a diameter of only 2 to 6 cm, whereby the smallest brooches were probably used more as buckles due to their size. Leather armour was also found in Germanic graves of the 2nd century, which was closed by omega brooches attached to the side.
