The Gokstad ship is still one of the most important Norwegian cultural sites and was named after the Gokstad farm, where there was a mighty burial mound where a king was buried with his ship about 1000 years ago. The Viking ship from Gokstad dates from 901 AD and can be admired today in the Vikingskipmuseet on Bygdøy in Oslo side by side with the no less famous Oseberg ship.
