This delicate medieval belt fitting in the shape of a stylized lily, a so-called Fleur de Lys, dates to the 15th century.The belt fitting "Fleur-de-Lys" measures 2.8 x 1.8 cm.
The belt fitting is made of high-quality bronze casting.
Fastening: There are four rivet pins on the back of the medieval belt fitting. To fasten the medieval belt fitting, simply insert them through the corresponding holes in the leather. It is best to use pliers to bend the tip of the rivet pin inwards a little. If you then tap the rivet pins flat with a hammer, the tip will sink into the leather and the medieval belt fitting will be stable and flat on the belt.
In the Middle Ages, the lily was a symbol of purity and innocence and emblematic of the Virgin Mary. Due to the tripartite nature of the blossom, in the Christian faith the lily stands for the Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
According to legend, the lily was once given to the Frankish Merovingian king Clovis I by an angel coming from heaven. This is why the lily was also the coat of arms of the French royal house throughout the Middle Ages.
