Belt sets with a variety of fittings and strap ends were very common among the Avar horsemen in the Early Middle Ages and were important for rank, status and clan within Avar society - therefore belt sets are very often found in Merovingian finds.
The Merovingian strap end measures 5.3 x 1.6 cm.
The belt end is made of high-quality bronze and in genuine silver-plated.
Fastening:
As evidenced by historical examples from the Merovingian period, the strap end replica has two pins 8 mm long on the back.
These are best bent slightly at the tip with round-nosed pliers and then simply tapped flat with a hammer.
