This detailed replica of an Avar belt fitting with hinge is based on a historical find from the Merovingian period, dating from the 8th century.Bronze and silver belt fittings were very common among the Avars in the Early Middle Ages and were significant for rank, status and clan within Avar society - belt fittings are therefore found very frequently in Avar finds from the Merovingian period.
The Avar belt hanger measures 3.6 x 2 cm.
The fitting is suitable for belts with a width of 2 cm.
The Avar belt hanger is made of high-quality bronze and is also available in real silver-plated.
Fastening: On the back of the Avar belt fitting there are three pins on each of the two parts. To attach them, they are passed through holes in the leather and bent over. Use pliers to bend the tip of the pins slightly inwards. If you now tap the pins flat with a hammer, their tip sinks into the leather and the fitting is solidly attached to the belt.
