Short description
Celtic belt hook with horse head based on a find from the Latène period of the 2nd Century BC. Zamak in brass or silver color. 5 x 2 x 1 cm.
Productdetails...

Celtic belt hook of the La Tène period.

Here you can buy a replica of a Celtic belt hook with a horse's head that is based on a find from the 2nd century BC.

The model for this Celtic belt hook with horse head can be found in the Archaeological Museum of the city of Kelheim and dates to the La Tène C period.

A very similar Celtic horse-head belt hook from the late La Tène period is in the Württembergisches Landesmuseum, Stuttgart / Germany.

The Celtic belt hook is provided with a 3.8 cm round ring (inner diameter 3.2 cm), with which the belt hook can be attached to a leather strap or to a belt chain, as was often the case with the Celts in the La Tène period.
The belt ring for the opposite side is enclosed.

The horse head belt hook is suitable for belts of 3 cm width and has the dimensions 5 x 2 x 1 cm.
Made of zinc alloy in brass or silver colour.

Between the third and first century BC, there was a Celtic oppidum called Alkimoennis in the triangle where the Danube and Altmühl rivers meet, near the village of Kelheim. The oppidum was already mentioned around 100 AD by the geographer Claudius Ptolemy and, with a good 600 hectares, was probably one of the largest oppids of the La Tène period.
