Print product data sheet

Renaissance belt buckle with acanthus ornament.

The buckle has a floral renaissance motif and a pin on the back, which is hooked into the belt holes to close the belt.

The buckle is suitable for leather belts 4 cm wide, available in brass or silver colour. Zamak casting.

Buckle diameter: 6.8 cm.

The buckle is ideal for our interchangeable belts with press studs or for our classic belt straps. There is also a metal or leather belt loop to match the buckle.

The acanthus motif has been known in the architecture of Greek culture since the 5th century BC and was used, for example, on the Corinthian column capitals. Acanthus (Acanthus mollis) is also known as "hogweed"; it is a thistle-like perennial plant from the Mediterranean region whose feathery, curled leaves were often used as a decorative motif in antiquity.

The acanthus motif has been used in art without interruption since antiquity, through the Middle Ages and Renaissance to the Baroque period, where it was used particularly in goldsmithing and book illumination. The acanthus motif can also often be seen on gravestones, as it is associated with immortality and resurrection in a Christian context.
