Belt bag in the style of Magyar tarsoly pouches.

This small belt pouch was inspired by medieval models of Hungarian tarsoly bags, which were common among the Magyars and the Eastern Vikings during the Viking Age.

In the middle of the bag flap there is a central decorative fitting as an expressive eye-catcher, which is complemented by an equally decorative strap end fitting. The Tarsoly bag is closed with a small buckle on the front.

The Magyar belt pouch is available in black and brown cowhide with decorative zamac fittings in brass or silver color.

The dimensions are 21 x 15.5 cm with a depth of 4 cm.
The passage for the belt is 5 cm wide.

The belt pouch is quite roomy and besides a large wallet and a bunch of keys, it can easily hold a pack of cigarettes and a smartphone with a display size up to 6 inches.

Viking Age bags with magyar tarsoly metal fittings are not only known from the eastern regions like Ukraine and Russia, but were also found in the Viking settlement Birka in eastern Sweden. It is assumed that the origin of these special Viking bags lies with the nomadic equestrian peoples of the Magyars in what is now Hungary, where such so-called Tarsoly bags were very common as part of the traditional costume. Due to the extensive trade journeys of the Eastern Vikings from the 8th to the 10th century, these Magyar belt pouches reached Scandinavia via the great rivers from the Eastern steppes. Characteristic for the Magyar Viking belt pouches was a lyra-like design and rich metal fittings, so-called tarsoly, on the pocket flap.
