During the Viking Age, chain distributors were particularly common in Finland and the Baltic States. The brooches with chain distributors, worn in pairs, were an important part of women's traditional dress in North-Eastern Europe and are therefore often found in women's graves from the Viking Age, often with several chains on top of each other.

The dimensions of the chain distributor are 3 x 2.2 cm (measured without the hook).

You can buy the chain distributor in high-quality bronze or genuine silver-plated.
Alternatively, you can also order it in 925 sterling silver (please note delivery time).

The Viking chain distributor is equipped with an S-hook for attaching to the brooch and has six eyelets to which several chains can be attached.

The price is for a single distributor, so please order two pieces for a pair.

The Viking Age fortified town of Staraya Ladoga near St. Petersburg was located on an old trade route that ran from the Baltic Sea via the Volga to the Caspian Sea. The oldest finds of Scandinavian origin in this area date back to the middle of the 8th century.

Due to the mixing of cultural influences as a result of trade, Swedish, Finnish, Slavic and even Arabic artefacts are often found side by side in the graves of Staraya Ladoga.

Most of the Viking-era jewellery from Staraya Ladoga is therefore of Finnish origin. This includes this horse pendant, which was found in burial mound 6 of Zaozere in the south-eastern Ladoga area.

Interestingly, in addition to the horse pendant of Finnish origin, Slavic temple rings and West Scandinavian oval brooches from the 10th century were also found in the same grave – this cultural mix is characteristic of the Staraya Ladoga find area.
