Viking belt mount with bird in Mammen style.

This replica of a Viking belt mount is based on a find from East Anglia in England and shows a bird in the so-called Mammen style.

Link to the original model...

The historical model dates from the middle of the 10th century and was made as a brooch with a pin construction.
Five other models in the same style are known from England.

The dimensions are similar to the original, 2.5 x 2.5 cm.

The Viking belt mount is available in high-quality bronze and in genuine silver-plated.

Fastening: There are four pins on the back of the belt fitting. To fasten the mount, simply insert the pins through the corresponding holes in the leather. Use pliers to bend the tip of the pin inwards a little. If you then tap the pins flat with a hammer, the tip sinks into the leather and the Viking mount is attached to the belt in a stable and flat manner.

The Mammen style is also called the Younger Jelling style and is an art style that was common in Scandinavia from the middle of the 10th century to the beginning of the 11th century. The Mammen style was named after the discovery of an axe from the tomb of Mammen in Jutland / Denmark.

The Mammen style was often used on splendid objects of daily use and jewellery made of metal or on carvings made of horn and on picture stones. The animal-like forms typical of the Viking period were given stronger bodies in the Mammen style, and the hip spirals known from the Jelling style became more extended.
